This version of The Birdie is to advertise the coming Annual General Meeting on Sunday December 4th.
It includes the Notice of the AGM as well as the board’s recommendations for the coming year’s dues, the financial statements and the Treasurer's report as well as motions that will generate significant changes to the Club’s constitution if adopted.
Before the AGM we will produce another Birdie that will include reports from the different Committees.
Dues for the 2011 season be increased by an average of 3% as per the table attached to this notice.
INCREASE IN DUES:
Board recommends that dues be increased for the 2012 season
(as per the table below )to cover the cost of living.
The total revenue increase is 3%. All categories will have an increase of at least 3%. The following table describes the actual increases.
Board recommends that no increase
be applied to Junior, Social and Associate members.
Rationale: At the 2006 AGM the membership indicated that we should be moving towards a single membership system and that we should
be trying to reach that goal over a period of time. The easiest way to do it is to slowly bring the double member categories to an equal
level with the single categories. This year's dues increases are following that process. Next year we could decide to eliminate the couple and family membership categories.
Gabriola Golf and Country Club
Proposed due increases for 2011
Non res. Single
Non res. Couple
Non res. Family
Any past members who have paid their initiation fees in the past can rejoin the Club without repaying an initiation fee
If this motion is passed at the AGM it would then void sections: 7 (i) and (ii) and 16 and therefore should be deleted.
(those are the sections that deal with the request that a playing member could stay as a social member to keep his/her memberhsip current otherwise he/she would have to pay 50% of the initiation dues to rejoin the Club
if absent more than 12 months)
Initiation fees can be paid over a five year period at $100.00 per year. If the member leaves the Club at anytime during those five years he will not be indebted to the Club for the remainder of the unpaid initiation fee.
The world is going through hard financial times and Gabriola is no exception.
Golf being a leisure activity would be one of the first to be affected by those conditions and we have to find ways to improve our operation. One of them is to try to attract new and former members as well as the general public.
The proposed resolutions have that intention.
Clause 17 of the Constitution be deleted.
“Family membership rates shall be established so that the differential between Couples and Family memberships is seventy-five percent (75%) of a Junior membership.” Rationale We have nobody with family membership and the Junior dues have been kept fixed to help the juniors which makes it hard to adjust the annual dues in a fair and equitable manner.
Clause 19 of the Constitution be deleted.
“Annual dues for a corporate member will be ten percent (10%) greater than that of a single resident playing member’s rate.”
Rationale The recommendation of fees by the Executive already includes a recommendation for Corporate Membership dues for members to approve at each AGM.
Any person over 60 years of age gets a break of $100.00 per year over 60 until 65 when there is no initiation fee.
